Tampa is a large city on the Gulf Coast and is the County Seat of Hillsborough County. As of the 2009 census, it ranks as the 54th largest city in the country.
The area was referred to as Tampa, meaning sticks of fire, by its early indigenous people who once lived just to the south of where the city is located. It is thought by some that the name came from the multitude of lightening strikes that would hit the area at any one time.
Though the Spaniards sited the area in the 1500s, there were no settlements built until 1824 when the Army sent a force to build a fort and establish a frontier post. The city
