This is a beautiful park to stay at. Very well maintained and nice flat camping spots. Mature trees give good shade in about 70% of the sites. We have been having our family reunions here for the last two years, and decided to make it a permanent destination for the event. We stayed in the "H" section of the campground where the appeal is very nice. This area is a lost treasure of the state. Many people around here know about it, but it seems to be elusive to many travelers. The restrooms are ok,... Read More

We have been having our family reunions here for the last two years, and decided to make it a permanent destination for the event. We stayed in the "H" section of the campground where the appeal is very nice. This area is a lost treasure of the state. Many people around here know about it, but it seems to be elusive to many travelers. The restrooms are ok, a few spider webs around the ceiling and a cricket here and there. They are kept clean, but need the extra touch regarding pests. This is my reason for only 4 stars. Showers are very nice and roomy. The faucet actually stays on just like home. Firewood is scarce, so pick some up on the way if you wish to burn. The big drawback is each site needs a sewer and water hookup. This is my reason for a 4 out of 5 star rating for the facility itself. Power supply is 30 amp, and sites are roomy and spaced about 50' apart. Plenty of safe paved roads for kids to ride their bikes or scooters. Fishing on this lake is rewarding. Plenty of catfish, crappie, bass and other gamefish make this lake a summer hotspot. Plenty of boat ramps around the lake. Boat rentals, cabin rentals and a few good friends make your stay here a memorable experience. I'm a fellow traveler who is very picky about my reviews. I look for the things that you can't find on websites or in other's reviews. I've been all over the USA, and have been camping for 45 years. Island View Park is in my top 5 places to stay in Iowa. There is an aquatic center in Albia, which is 10 miles N.E. from here as well as a beautiful town square. Shopping for groceries is an easy 10 mile trip to the S.E. in Centerville. Fareway, Hy-Vee and Wal-Mart can be found on the South side of town on Hwy. 5.
