This was our first stay. It is the last time and ONLY time we will stay here. The owner has no respect for women and little respect for men or anyone else. The park needs a lot of updates and TLC. Not all sites have cable TV, but their website does not say that. When you call to make reservation, owner does not ask you if you want FHU. You need to be very specific if you want water, electric and what size electric, sewer, and cable. The cable here is Direct TV, but the local channels are not provided... Read More

You need to be very specific if you want water, electric and what size electric, sewer, and cable. The cable here is Direct TV, but the local channels are not provided by Direct TV, as they are very fuzzy. The antennae channels also get bad reception. We didn't order any food, as the prices were over-priced and they only serve till 6pm. The dog run is a great size, but there isn't anything provided to clean up after your pet, so bring your own bags. Everything here was over-priced, even the campsite.

It is OK, but needs a little lipstick. Dirt roads. Non-working CATV (horrible interference). While I was registering, a camper called the desk and said he couldn't get a wifi signal. The registrar didn't offer much in the way of help. When I got to my site, it too didn't work.

I personally thought the campground itself was very nice but as for the owner, that is a different story. My husband and I had a reservation to stay only one night as we were on our way home after a two-month cross country trip. The owner was very friendly while we were checking in. He advised us to be careful going outside of our Motorhome as they saw a diamond back rattle snake in one of the sites a few days before we arrived and he had a black bear on his porch the previous week. He also provided a menu to us where we could order ribs, briskets, etc. and have it delivered to our campsite. My husband and I are in our 70’s and thought this would be convenient after a long day of traveling. The owner said that we would need to call before 6:00 pm. To have the food delivered. We only arrived around 4:30pm so as soon as we setup our RV, I called to place the order. This was approximately 5:00pm. When I called, the owner asked what site number I was in and he told me I was in the wrong spot. I checked the map that he provided to us and the site number he wrote on the map was where we were. He said he had someone else in that spot. No one was in the spot when we arrived, so I asked him if he wanted us to move. He got very upset on the phone and said he needed to check it out. He flew down to our campsite on his golf cart and barely stopped to talk to us. I held up the map to show him what he wrote but he yelled,” WHERE DID SHE GO? I NEED TO FIGURE THIS OUT!” and flew back to his office on the golf cart. I waited for him to contact us as we didn’t know if we needed to move and I didn’t want to start dinner until I knew if I could still place an order. I called the office at 5:45 pm and asked if he figured out what was going on and if we needed to move. He was very abrupt with me and said he was busy and didn’t have a chance to look into it. I said, “OK…...can I still place an order for the food?” He yelled, “NO…. I’M TOO BUSY!” At that point I stopped listening and as he continued to rant, I hung up the phone. We left the next morning, and he never did get back to us. My husband and I stayed at 27 Campgrounds on our trip across the United States and we were never treated as rudely as this man treated us. To all Campers out there, I would avoid Santa Rosa Campground if you are traveling through Santa Rosa, NM. There are plenty of other campgrounds out there where the owners appreciate your business and will treat you far better than this man does. I honestly wish I had read the reviews on Tripadvisor & Good Sam's instead of just going by the Good Sam's 'rating'.

Front of property looks great and check in was fast and efficient with friendly service. However when we got to our site 50 amp service did not work. The individual that came over to “help” was borderline rude and dismissive. They metered the pole and it metered good, however we still had no power and an open ground light on RV power monitor. We asked to go to another spot to see if it was the RV or their spot and the one individual was again rude. The younger man gave us another slot in a different... Read More

We asked to go to another spot to see if it was the RV or their spot and the one individual was again rude. The younger man gave us another slot in a different area of the park without sewer hookup but the power worked there. Another RV that was in the spot next to our original spot also lost power and had an open ground on their monitor. They ended up leaving as there were supposedly no more spots available. Was not impressed with the upkeep of the park as it was full of weeds on the spots, especially on the tent sites. Will not come back to this one.

The representative indicated that the only spaces available were 30 amp electrical service and I agreed that those would work for us (the website indicates full hook ups so I didn’t inquire about the water or sewer). Upon arrival my wife entered the office and she was greeted by the owner and he was “gruff” and muttered something about having 2 strikes against her (#1, having no reservation, and #2 for being from CA or WA). My wife is very nice and she attributed his poor behavior to the long weekend and paid for both spaces. We proceeded to our assigned space (which had water and 30 amp electrical service). About an hour later, a male in a van approach us from the rear of the space and inquired about a drip from our water service. I told him I would check it. About a minute later he was at the front of our space demanding I remove a plug from the 30 amp service (it was cord to recharge the batteries in my enclosed trailer). His demeanor was rude and inappropriate given that I didn’t know who he was (my only previous interaction with someone at the park was via telephone so I had never seen him) and given the electrical post has 2-30 amp receptacles and 4-110 amp receptacles. I inquired as to why the plug need to be removed and he stated “because I said so.” My response was “who are you?” He identified himself as the owner and he “didn’t need to give me a reason.” Our interaction went “downhill” from there and to make a long story short we left the park about an hour after our arrival when he refunded the payment for the 2 spaces. I will not stay here again under any circumstances due to the owner’s demeanor, his poor approach regarding an issue, and his rude comments and actions. Additionally, this park needs to have an updated evaluation by Good Sam.

We have stayed in many Good Sam RV parks and use that as a decision point when deciding on a campground. I do not like to leave negative reviews, but in this case I must. We have stayed here twice this summer as we have friends who live in Santa Rosa. Each time the result was the same. This is a poorly maintained park, despite the pictures on the web site. There are weeds every where, many of the roads have washed out areas in them and the playground is a disaster for anyone with kids. We stayed... Read More

We were excited to stay at this Good Sam recommended campground, and had passed up the STATE park for the opportunity. Upon arrival a man with a “Border Patrol” cap was outside smoking and observed us pull in to check in. He observed me placing a mask on in order to enter the facility to check in. Upon entering the office area, he was nowhere to be seen for 4 minutes. He then casually sauntered in muttering under his breath. I then asked if he was Border Patrol, and he said no. We were the only two in the place, separated by 2 feet and I was yelling. He then sent us to the wettest, lowest site …… there were others open. NEVER EVER STAY HERE. Not worth the money. I showed a military ID and explained my Service dog. He softened somewhat but was still not nice. I wish there were no stars. The bathroom was dirty, muddy, and just plain unhygienic. No water, no sewer….. and $32 plus tax for electric. WiFi was non existent…but he said they had it. Good Sam needs to check this place out. Poorly recommended.

I really did not want to stay here again but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was because of the pandemic. I waited till the last minute to schedule because of the "no refund policy". On our way to Santa Rosa we were involved in an accident. Our roof was ripped open by a big rig. We finally arrived at the campground a few hours after the accident. Upon checking in I asked if we could borrow a ladder to put plastic over our roof because it was going to start raining again. The guy who runs the place was the same jerk from last year. He says "NO" I don't have a ladder. Absolutely no help or sympathy. He is not a "Good Sam". We will never stay here again.

Later my husband commented that it looked like the pool was open must've finished adding chemicals. The "gentleman" then went on a tirade about how he didn't make any money on that pool and it cost him for all the chemicals he had to add". He was a rude jerk! I would not recommend this place at all! It advertises "relax in the heated pool" (which by the way is freezing) then the jerk has the nerve to complain! Not worth it! Keep driving.

I came in late on a cold night. I had had a tough last hour of driving over very icy roads. I was tired. The host came out and led me to my site even though the office had been closed for awhile already. He was very helpful and friendly. His assistance was much appreciated. I had to leave early the next morning so I didn't really get to see much of the place. Well shaded and grass between the sites. I would stop here again.

My propane tanks were almost empty but they couldn't accomodate me on the way in because they were too busy. After getting set up I hauled my tanks up to the office for filling and asked for help getting them back to my site. The guy at the office refused. I am a near 70 year old disabled vet and I thought my request was reasonable. The guy at the office told me that since I could get the tanks up to the office I could get them back myself. I told him that I didn't think much of his attitude toward customer service. After a while he did think better of it but by that time I had them almost back to my space and I was winded, tired and angry.. I told him to go to H. He told me he could give me my money back and we could stay someplace else. That was the wrong thing to say or do. I'd spent the previous 6 hours fighting the Texas wind getting us to this point where maybe we could rest - I wasn't going to let some horse's A push me off the place I'd paid for to rest. We ordered food that was advertised to be BBQ. BBQ requires slow cooking over fire and smoke. What we got was ribs and brisket that were obviously baked in an oven and then slathered in store-bought sauce and then cut wrong - with the grain. Neither of these were seasoned nor had they ever seen any smoke or flame. To call them BBQ was, in my opinion, utterly false advertising. Stay here again? Nope! Would camp in the desert and cook beans and bacon for myself before giving them another dime of my money. But then that's my opinion. YMMV

Free cable with a lot of channels however, the local channels were not clear (I think this is a cable company problem rather than a campground problem). We have a Service Dog and she had plenty of new territory to explore (on leash), far more than the usual gravel and small dog areas that are often available. Sadly, mobility issues did not allow us to visit or enjoy the restaurant. However, I have no doubt that it would have been as enjoyable as the rest of our visit. The campground area is quiet and not subjected to highway or railroad noises as are many parks. We enjoyed our stay two years in a row, and have added this location as a favorite place to rest and relax. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

Stayed here 1 night to escape approaching bad weather. Glad we stopped here. Easy in and easy out with our Class A 40' with tow vehicle. Sights were very level and very solid even after a torrential downpour. It was wet but still remained solid. Did not use the bathrooms or showers so cannot comment on them. Owner was very personable, witty and had an enjoyable conversation. Good for a nights stay and will return. Wish we had tried the BBQ after reading the reviews, but perhaps next time.

Very near to Santa Rosa Lake (great to go swim your furbaby) and the Blue Hole (which is amazing; I disagree not worth the visit. Look for the fish!). As for the owner and other reviews on him; he does have a bit of a wry sense of humor, but I found him delightful. I can see how he's not much to tolerate the spoiled/entitled customer; he's a little bit of a good ole'boy. As such, he will go the extra mile for you unless you act the jerk. Then you're gonna loose. Just sayin.

The local "Blue Hole" attraction is basically a swimming hole surrounded by parking lots and baseball fields - not worth the visit unless you want to swim or learn to scuba. The best attraction in the area is Santa Rosa Lake State Park which is a short drive and offers 5+ miles of hiking trails as well as camping. Overall this place is a good option for the area but I wouldn't stay more than 1-2 nights.

This is an okay park. Sites are gravel, but fairly level. The people working here are very nice and helpful. The park does have a BBQ restaurant for evening dining that seems to be quite popular. The showers are old, but very clean and the water pressure is good. Wifi is very iffy, better in the early morning than the rest of the day.

39o out no heat in the restroom no hot water. Campground is less than basic. Checked in late in the evening the gentleman at the registration desk was very obnoxious and rude.

The first issue I had with my stay is that after calling to make a reservation and not reaching anyone I never received a call back. Approximately 3 hours after my initial phone call, I called again and did reach someone at the park. Since my arrival was going to be after hours, I was instructed to obtain registration paperwork at the office and then select a site. I was not given a specific site number and was told that there were plenty of spaces available. Upon arriving at the park, the office was closed and my wife secured the registration documents. Since we had not been assigned a specific space, we decided to find a space then complete the registration so the site number could be recorded. This is what we had done at other locations. We selected our site and were in the process of setting up when there was this loud banging on our camper door. Frankly, I was quite shocked by this and when I opened the door I was greeted by the park attendant (middle age, white male) who had his arms crossed in an aggressive posture with a large flashlight in one hand. In a terse manner he stated that I had not registered and that I needed to do so. I explained to him my experience at other parks and told him I would take care of it now. What was so shocking about this encounter was his posture and demeanor was nothing like I had ever experience at an RV park. He made me and my wife feel we had done something terribly wrong. The encounter made me feel very uncomfortable and I told my wife that we would stop by the office the next morning to make sure we got a payment receipt. The next morning as we were making preparations to leave, the same park attendant operating a golf cart came to a sliding stop at our trailer. Without any greeting he again in a very terse way stated that our credit card was bad. At this point my wife had had enough of this fellow and began walking to the office to handle the matter in person. Long story short there was nothing wrong with our card and we paid our bill. Bottom line with this attendant; he should be working at a prison not an RV park. A final issue; as we were departing we noticed several sites that had full hook ups. This was not mentioned when we initially called and caused us to drive to the dump station located in the park. My experience at all other RV parks is that the attendants' are very friendly and helpful. My experience at this park was the opposite!

First off, don't rely on your Garmin GPS! It will send you in the wrong direction. Follow directions given by Good Sam's or the campground site. Santa Rosa is a "retired" KOA facility. It does show its age ... short/narrow sites. Older trees, gravel roads and pads. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Campground is well lit and quiet. It was a nice one night stay.

Owner/manager pleasant on phone for reservation and late arrival, but does have wry sense of humor. Easily found off I-40 with Google maps. Outstanding service: owner/manager helped family next to us who were first time RVers in a rental; assisted and advised in how to connect electric, water and sewer in the dark. Bit of a wait, as others had ordered for campsite delivery, but the wait was worth it, and the open kitchen window allowed us to watch the process. The cook takes meticulous care in making sure each order is right. Restrooms in the center part of the park definitely needed more attention to cleaning; the one at the office was in good shape.

The park isn't terrible, although the spaces are really tight and not very long. The sewer and water/electric are right next to your neighbor's picnic table. We spent two nights here on our way to the International Balloon Fiesta. The young man who checked us in told us about their dinner delivery service, so we ordered. The food was okay, but the service was great! We used the laundry facility which was clean and nice. The site we were on (#11) was relatively flat. We plan on stopping here again on our way home.

The best thing is that the individual sites are in perfect working order, and the sites are level. Both times we were just staying overnight on our journey. The sites were level enough that we did not even have to unhook our 36 foot travel trailer. The campground is in desert terrain, and the desert scarcity is beautiful and serene. The evenings are quiet and restful. Both stays we arrived in the late afternoon, and we were able to take advantage of the delivery service to our site from the cafe for our evening meal. The food was good. That convenience is really nice after traveling all day. We did not experience any problems with the utilities as some reviews claimed, and our stay was in 100 degree weather with using 50 amp service. In fact the internet service is also strong, which is nice since I teach online classes at the university level. The cell phone signal is strong. And the cable service is good, too. The owner is friendly and helpful. He is an interesting person, and we enjoyed our conversations with him while shopping at the gift shop. We will stay at Santa Rosa anytime we are in the area. In fact, we are planning to stay there again on our next vacation.

My rig has a surge protector (high and low) and the electricity level was insufficient (or possibly too dirty) to power us up; personally I think it is just too old. Sub zero temps forced us to run our truck in the middle of the night to keep the battery up enough to run the furnace. Needless to say not a comfortable stay and an early departure. After first stay, when power did work, I would recommend; now I cannot. FYI, returned home, plugged in my 15 amp wall socket and......it works; so was not an issue on my end!

Good stop over spot between the mountains and anywhere in Texas. As for ambience, it's the New Mexico dessert, but the sunrises and sunsets are awesome. The owner has a wry sense of humor. Just give it back to him and you'll get along fine. Restaurant on site so you don't have to unhook if passing through. And the food is good. You can have it delivered to your site too. We've stayed there the last two years on our way back to Texas.

If I could give negative stars, I would. Horrible customer service! The worst we've experienced in many years! Save yourself the headache and bypass this facility. It gives the Good Sam club a bad name and they should remove this establishment from their list of preferred RV parks.

We stayed there one night enroute to Prescott, AZ and had a good experience. The restaurant on site had good and reasonable food so we didn't have to leave to find a place to eat. My only misgiving was that the camping spaces were fairly close and barely long enough for our 27 ft. travel trailer and pickup.

The park is well maintained by an on site maintenance man, who was seen buzzing about all day. Dry, sandy, and dusty but I liked it. It is not that they didn't try for grass and flowers. The restaurant on site was really neat and very good. We ordered and they delivered to our RV. It was a fun treat and good tasting. There are two complete bathroom buildings both with showers. One large building is in the campground itself near the center of all the rv sites. The other is up the hill and part of the office bldg near the pool. Both bathrooms are clean, and very useable, but the one by the office is really just sparkling, well lit, and obviously scrubbed clean and maintained to the highest degree. Take the time to walk up the hill. This is a good, safe, and secure stop for a comfortable night off the road.

My husband usually handles the check in process and my experience has been after hours we have sometimes paid in the AM rather than leave our cc information in a unmanned box overnight. So that is what we thought we would do in this case. We had tried to call to reserve a space but they were closed. We pulled in and I grabbed the paperwork (payment envelope & avail. Site). Upon finding our site and while in the process of hooking up, we were approached by a very gruff gentleman. He asked what name he should expect to see on the registration form and I told him our last name. And then I promptly explained that I had not put it in the box as our plan was to pay when they opened in the morning. And he said that was not an option, that we had to pay tonight. I apologized and said that we would walk up and do so at that point. I went into the camper and filled out the paper work and he stayed at our site until we left the camper to walk up to the office. While he was waiting for me to fill out the paperwork, my husband asked him what the Good Sam rate was and he said there was no discounted rate and that the rate was $30. And gruffly stated that there was a big sign stating that we had to pay before entering (he said a bid sign). There was no such sign, just a small sign stating to drop the envelope in the slot. Fine, whatever! He followed us up towards the office and by the time we had aput the envelope in the box, another nicer man went into the office (my guess was to retrieve the envelope and make sure of the payment). Imy point is, if you are going to allow after hours check in, have some faith that campers are going to rip you off and don't make them feel like criminals. It was a very eery feeling for us. #endofrant

We ate at the restaurant on site and had the pleasure of meeting his family, who were also dining there that night. Very nice group of people, it felt like being with family. Dinner was good, quite a few diners that evening and everyone seemed to enjoy their food, we could overhear compliments being made. Waitress was very nice and a hard worker. The two other men working were also very nice, nice conversation from all in the facility. After dinner, put some clothes to wash while my son swam in the pool. Sure, it had leaves in it, it was the end of the day and there's a tree there for some shade during the day I would imagine. My husband did not have a problem scooping the leaves out real quick. Not a big deal. Laundry room was good, machines did what they're supposed to do. Enjoyed sitting for the hour, with a glass of wine, waiting for the clothes, it was nice and quiet. Until.......the mosquitoes started, it was dusk though. I had no idea New Mexico had mosquitoes! I live in the swamp and never get bit by them, so those New Mexico skeeters must've wanted some swamp blood that night cause they tore me up. But oh well, it wasn't the death of me, I'm just not use to getting bit! Went to blue hole the next morning, swam for a couple of hours, lots of fun, a must do while there and check out wasn't until 2 so it was nice to be able to go in the morning and not be stressed out about checking out at 11. Did not use the bathrooms so can't comment on that. We will definitely stay here again, four stars because they were all so friendly and it was nice and quiet. Note* We traveled for two weeks and stayed at 6 campgrounds never having anyone be rude to us at any of them. Some people need to look at the man in the mirror sometimes. Just sayin'! Yes, I do copy and paste reviews to other sites so you may run across this again if you're doing your homework.

We didn't order any food, as the prices were over-priced and they only serve till 6pm. The dog run is a great size, but there isn't anything provided to clean up after your pet, so bring your own bags. Everything here was over-priced, even the campsite.

Another RV that was in the spot next to our original spot also lost power and had an open ground on their monitor. They ended up leaving as there were supposedly no more spots available. Was not impressed with the upkeep of the park as it was full of weeds on the spots, especially on the tent sites. Will not come back to this one.
