We were really excited to visit Rhode Island and stay in Newport! The location is great, it's right in the middle of Newport with plenty to do very close by. The campground itself has been disappointing. There are a few amenities, like a playground and a covered pavilion. There is a laundry room, but half of the machines are out of order, including the change machine. The lots are fairly level but very close to your neighbor (probably the closest we've been to our neighbor in any campground we've... Read More

The bathrooms are far worse than a lot of the state parks we have stayed in, and probably the worst of any campground we've been to. The bathrooms are honestly what led me to leaving this review, I couldn't believe how gross they looked with the price that we're paying ($100+ per night). It also looks like they have 6+ showers, but only one of them is unlocked, and this is during peak season. Having said all that, the price is extremely steep for what you get here. They also do not offer a GoodSam discount, which was misleading because I found them through the GoodSam website.

We travelled here for a short stay over school vacation week in our 36 foot Class A. Site was good sized and there was plenty of space between each one. Site was fairly level and gravel. Water pressure was low and cable TV was not running. Was told repeatedly that it was being fixed, however that never happened. Store was open til 4 pm then it was a ghost town. Adjacent to a public park and some hiking trails that were somewhat sketchy. A work crew with large bobcat style excavation equipment came... Read More

If you are looking for a no frills campground near Newport than this will do fine....not much for amenities or customer service though.

Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 5 nights in a site for big rigs, site F13. The Good.. Big coaches need a gravel pad and we give this rv park 5-stars for the thick gravel pad. Each site has grass between and a nice brick pad with a fire pit. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk, plus a short walk down the lane is a great dog park. After 5 nights the dust on our coach was minimal compared to many other parks. The Bad.. Our site was not level (front tires were off the ground). If you... Read More

If you desire privacy, request a site in the back of the park (sites are much roomier). Our satellite worked great at our site, however there are many trees in the back of the rv park so satellite reception would be questioned. On a side note: The office misled us in regard to their wifi. When we made our reservations we were told (both by phone and by email) that they have excellence wifi for checking email. WRONG! The entire time we were there only a couple times were we able to check our email (and that was after 11pm). Today we live in the age of wifi technology and there is nothing to stop this rv park from investing in doing wifi properly. For some users such as ourselves, wifi is an important feature and was one of the reasons for our stay here. We know enough not to count on a good signal over the weekends, but during the weekday there is no excuse. We even have the Wifi-Ranger on our roof with a direct-line-of-sight to their wifi source. There were no trees in the line-of-sight, and the distance wasn't a factor. If you're looking for a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax. go here. We enjoyed our stay here, however because of their `dishonesty' with the wifi strength we wouldn't return.

I called Melville ponds ask if they had electric hookups for tent camping. Told them between our truck and utility trailer our vehicle was 30 ft long. They said yes I gave them my credit card number. Upon arrival Friday afternoon. The tent camp area was too small for our vehicle NO ELECTRICTY. We drove around found a better spot. The RV spots are really level covered with large 2 inch paving rocks. The spot we wanted wasn't available, this one is. I ask how level is the grass? You can't put a tent... Read More

We can't put a tent on these rocks we can't stake it down. A tent will ruin our grass. They refunded our money referred us to a place that didn't take tents. It was 5:30 Friday night we had no place to go. We found a nice place in Massachusetts 5 miles away, bought gas spent tourism money there. I looked on melville ponds Facebook page one review was how much the dogs loved it . My tent will ruin grass but dog pee is good for it?. Won't go back to Rhode Island.
